My roommate is a neurologist and has to do this check all the time. Her all-time favorite so far has been “ay dios mio” during which the woman was vigorously crossing herself.
When finding probably-dead gooey things on a beach, do what good scientists do: poke it with a stick from a safe distance until you figure out what it is. This appears to be some sort of sea hare (a sort of underwater slug). there’s a bird called the hoatzin that lives in south america that looks like this:
it looks really cool kinda like a feathered dragon??
but the coolest part about this bird is the juveniles!! the babies in this species have claws on their wings that help them climb until they’re old enough to fly, and by that time the claws disappear!!
you can see the tiny claws in this pic!! it’s so cool because birds are living dinosaurs and these little baby hoatzins look like baby raptors with their claws!!

Expanding on bizarre aspects of hoatzin:
they are the only truly folivorous bird species, subsisting entirely on leaves
they are one of the few bird species that is monotypic in its order. A truly unique creature.
because of their leaf-eating, they have the longest digestive tract relative to body size of any bird
also because of their leaf-eating, they produce a lot of methane gas (like cows)
